Bush Organizing School Violence Summit

Wednesday October 4, 2006
According to an article at ABC.com, 'the Bush administration plans to bring education and law enforcement experts together for a conference on coming to grips with the problem and discuss federal action that can help communities prevent violence and deal with its aftermath.'

I have to say, I'm all for something getting done. I'm just wondering how the federal government is going to be able to do anything much. Schools are run by local government, so safety in your town's school starts with everyone who lives in the town. If you feel the school isn't safe, talk to the school board. Better yet, get a group of people to talk to the school board. Start a safety committee. Talk to some experts on what is needed at your school to make it safer. Remember the quote by Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
