Children Refusing to Go to College

Friday October 13, 2006
On our forum, IBadget asks: “Eight years ago, I was considering dropping out of college because I was getting tired of all the homework. When I brought that up with my parents, they told me that they would kick me out of the house if I dropped out of college. I thought, "Where would I go if I was kicked out of the house?" So I stayed in college. My father also has a friend who kicked his son out of the house because he dropped out of college.

Would you kick your children out of the house if they refused to go to college or dropped out of college?”

In today’s time it is true that a college degree of some kind is almost a must. Unfortunately not all children are suited for college. I feel that if your child is being responsible by holding a job, taking care of his/her necessities and showing a continued respect for us as parents, this world is far to rough to just kick them out. Both of my kids have gone on to college but I truly feel that if they hadn’t made that choice they would still have a home if they want it.

Many teens are turning to tech schools which have more ‘hands-on’ teaching for many different careers. It is a valid option.
