Do you know how fast your teen is going?

Wednesday December 13, 2006
According to an article in the Canadian Press, a 16-year-old teen was clocked going ‘145 km/h faster than the posted speed limit’ on a U.S. 30 in Indiana at 12:40 a.m. That is 142 miles per hour. He was sent home by the officer and asked to call him within an hour. Sheriff's spokesman Sergeant Tim Emmons says that might be the highest speed ever recorded on area roads. The teen faces speeding and misdemeanor reckless driving charges. And he could have his license suspended. Let’s hope the police follow through. I am sure that many teens are hearing about and following this story. They need to see the logical consequences fall into place or they could loose faith in the driving laws they are trying to adhere to.

This is a good reminder for those of us with teens who drive to talk to them about how fast is appropriate and the increase of accidents when you do speed. Use it as a conversation seed!
