According to a study published in this
article, the biggest worry teens have about going to the prom is how they will look and how clear their skin is. According to the survey: 'having beautiful, clear skin (52 percent) is just as important to teens as having the perfect dress/tuxedo (55 percent), having the perfect hairstyle/cut (51 percent), and being in shape (50 percent). Over half (56 percent) of teens believe the appearance of their skin will affect their experience at prom. About a third (36 percent) say that they would consider skipping the prom entirely if they had severe acne that day.'
Acne is a real problem for teenagers, but I’m not so sure that too many teens would miss the prom over it, let alone a third of all of them. Although they may say they would because the thought of it would be a nightmare to them. I really do not think acne would stop my daughter from attending and having fun with her friends. She has a pretty strong body image. My middle one, well, we’ll have to see with her. Do you think your teen would go to the prom if they were having acne problems?
I don’t think skin would cause them to stay home. They might consider it and it might upset them, but I doubt if it would be the final decision.
I am more concerned about guys that stand up girls. What’s a girl to do then, with two days left to buy tickets?
That stinks! Girls I’ve known who have had this or something similar happen have gotten together with girl friends and all gone together or bought tickets and looked for another date. ((hugs))
