Parenting Tips #2: It’s Your Teen’s Homework

Wednesday January 2, 2008
While being there to help your teen do his/her homework is commendable and recommended, don’t make the job easier by just doing it yourself. I know this is a non-issue for many, but I keep hearing from teachers that more and more of the homework they see is obviously done by the parents. Besides the clear reason that your teen will not learn anything, doing your teen’s homework for him/her will hurt his/her self-esteem as it comes across that you don’t trust them to get their work done or you don’t feel they are smart enough to do the assignment. The answer is simple, allow your teen to do their own work.

Have you ever felt you did too much of your teen's homework? Share your experiences in the comments area.
