This week is packed! Blog Round-Up for 04/22/08
Happy Earth Day! Got Plans? From Courtney Curtis, About.com’s Guide to Green Living has an informative blog post with fun suggestions for Earth Day. I think I’m going to go check my footprint.
Wayne Parker talks about National Wildlife Week April 19-27 on the Fatherhood site. He talks about seeing deer on his morning walks. I’m going to have to invite him over to visit with my ‘pet’ moose.
Did you know that it is also turn off your television week? Yup! We don’t participate in it. Maybe it’s because we never feel the need to use the television as a babysitter or the fact that it isn’t always on in our home. It could also be that my oldest just finished reading Bag of Bones by Stephen King or my middle one is reading Specials, the third book in a series that she loves. So, pushing them to read more may be overkill. Or that we all enjoy tuning into American Idol very much and the whole family talks about their likes and dislikes of the contestant’s performances. One thing even my 5-year-old agrees is that all of the idols are working hard to get what they want and using their talents. That is a pretty important lesson we get to see in action every week. She is a little upset that Kristy has left, though. Our Children’s Books Guide does have some suggestions if you are participating.
Our First Special Olympics was posted by Terri, our Special Children Guide. Her son brought home a bronze medal – way to go!! She also talks about using a teachable moment at the competition, be sure to check it out.
Heidi, About.com’s Guide to Kids Clubs asks on her blog: Do You Attend All Your Kid's Games? This is a very interesting poll. We attend all that we can get to. High school sports are a bit different then community sports in that they can start at 6pm and be 3 hours away on a school night when you have other children. Causing parents like me to be thinking about the game wishing we could be there, but staying home.
Do you have a scientific teen? I used to parent a teen(who is now grown) that loved science stuff. It was always so much fun to engage in conversations about funky things he’d ferret out that I’d never heard of. This article reminded me of him this morning. So if you have a funky science-loving teen, check it out: How to Sneak Inside the National Hurricane Center.
