Teach Your Teens the Benefits of Staying Out of the Sun

Tuesday June 24, 2008
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) wants to warn high school and college students that chronic sun exposure eventually can cause signs of premature aging - including wrinkles, sagging cheeks and skin discoloration. Read though the article for more information, then talk about it with your teen.

Being in the skin care industry for 29 years and having 6 people I know DIE from skin cancer – ALL UNDER THE AGE OF 30, I cannot believe parents actually let their children go to the tanning booths. Naperville Il, where we are supposed to have great education and great resources,a Mom opened up a tanning salon. She and her daughters are so dark it looks fake. I asked passing teens what they thought about the really dark girls and they all said – disgusting. But shame on this Mom and owner for pushing future health concerns on her children just for the sake of money and vanity. We need to educate our children on safe tanning with sunscreen and the different types and how to use. I guarentee that there isn’t a teen out there that knows that a full application of sunscreen is a full shot glass of product and should be applied 30 minutes before. If applied when you get outside, the damage is already starting. Please parents – teach your kids how to stay safe – and alive.

Well I am a teen, and I know exactly how to put on suscreen. I always apply it 30 minutes before I go out in the sun, and I only go out in the sun when I have to get to my car. I am a teen who knows the importance of this issue.
