The Secret Life of the American Teenager

Tuesday July 1, 2008
This ABC Family sitcom premieres tonight and your teen is going to want to watch it. About the show:

“Good-girl band geek Amy is smart, talented... and pregnant. Super-Christian cheerleader Grace wants to wait until she's married. As their secrets start to spread to the parents and to friends like bad-boy Ricky and wild-child Adrian, everyone's secrets and stories start to come to the surface.”

With the teen pregnancy pact being in the news recently, I feel this is a show I will be watching with my teens. While we can’t shield our teens from everything, we can be there to talk. It seems this show is going to give us lots to talk about, I think.

I think this show is great, though I feel some parents may shy away from watching this with their kids as ignorance is bliss to some. :\

The Secret Life of the American Teenager is a good site with different views on the show.

ABC Family motto is a different kind of family. This type of show actually makes its seem that its ok if your tween is pregnant because they’ll have support. We dont need this type of trash on the the TV. Lets make a hero out of the girl who is a Christian and not pregnant. Parents dont need this type of show to teach their kids. This is another way for the left to justify their its ok attitude with everything. Brittney Spears, her sister, Paris hilton and other little hussies like that hurt our children. How about a show that says its cool to have morals and not be a slut to get pregnant. No wonder America is slipping. No morals.

I disagree with Shannon. I don’t think this show is trash I think it’s a great show. I got pregnant in high school and became a teen parent. I had morals and I was NOT a slut. I struggled and grew up very quickly even with the help of a supportive family. My parents never had any type of sex talk with me and while I don’t blame them for getting pregnant I do wish I would have had some guidance at such confusing time in my life. In my opinion I don’t feel that movies or tv shows about pregnancy or even pregnant teen stars are to blame for our children getting pregnant. I feel it is lack of guidance and parents saying that is a form of entertainment but these will be the consequences of the decisions you make. The kids these days are growing up too fast and I see it in my family and other families around me it is the lack of parenting. That is the reason why I watch the show with my daughter who it 10 and I explain to her the struggles I went through then I became a positive role model with education, marriage and love. Yes pregnant teens can have morals. My husband and I are good citizens, my husband is a soldier, that shows our children pride and respect themselves, others and our country. We are responsible for teaching our children and being open and honest in guiding them to make the best decisions and then teach their children the same. It is the cycle we hope to continue throughout generations of our family. If parents don’t like the “hussies” or trash on television then limit the websites, magazines, television shows etc. that your children are exposed to but also educate them and guide them. I don’t feel like I can stress that enough. Children are almost like plants you plant them, care for them and you have to nurture them to become what you want them to become through all the “storms” they face.
