Top 3 Ways to Model Thankfulness

Tuesday October 21, 2008
Thankfulness is taught to children and teens much like all character training is, by parents modeling the positive behavior. Here are the top three ways you can model thankfulness in your home:
  1. Remember your pleases and thank yous. This is especially true when asking for and receiving something from your teen or spouse. Often we use our manners more with strangers, neglecting those we love. If this sounds like you, change this habit and in time, so will your kids.
  2. Do charity work as a family. For instance, make it a habit for everyone to go to the charity clothing drop-off in your community after your yearly closet cleaning. Your teen will not only remember this trip but he/she will learn graciousness from it.
  3. Catch your teen being thankful and praise him/her.
