Parenting Resolutions Blog Carnival

Thursday January 1, 2009
Looking back over this last year, I couldn’t help but notice all of the new faces we have here on the About.com Parenting & Family Channel. When you combine them with the Guides who have been here awhile, well, there is a lot of talent. 2008 may not have been the best year in economy terms, but if you need free expert parenting information, About.com went out of its way to get it! So here is my suggested resolution for all who are reading the carnival: Get to know us on a first name basis and let us know what we can do for you by sharing your voice on our blogs.

Here is the carnival, don’t forget to give a little comment love when you read the posts:

I think Carrie over on our Adoption and Foster Care blog resolved to get organized without even knowing it. She’s got resolutions for parents of adoptive and foster care kids by month with linked-in resources. If you’re a parent of an adoptive child or a foster care parent you are going to want to bookmark these.

Laureen runs the Work-at-Home Moms’ blog, and I have to say I’ve been gleaming tips and tricks from her since she’s come aboard. She mentions, among other things, my all-time favorite resolution: Get organized. It’s one I try every year and every year I try some more. Little by little, I’ll get there.

I think Katherine at the Working Moms’ blog has this resolution thing down to a science. Read what she is going to be doing, note her organizational skills and see if you can incorporate something on to your list.

Catherine sent in what she plans on doing this winter to keep her family fit, which is good because she is running the new Family Fitness blog and that is what we want to know. She has a whole list of pledges you can make for adults, kids and teens, be sure to check it out.

Jennifer at the Single Parents’ Blog talks about making little changes that give big rewards, in my humble opinion. I may have to do the ‘scheduling one night off’ tip, have a girls night out. I’m adding it to my list as I type… remember, organization? I got the list-thing down.

Susan has a worthy resolution over on her Grandparents blog. She gives good reasons to keep yourself healthy and fit – spry and happy too. I’m all for it!

Robin on the Pregnancy and Childbirth blog gives resolutions for healthy pregnancies. If you are pregnant or are going to be pregnant anytime soon, pick up one of these resolutions.

Jackie has some tips on her Parenting Young Adults’ blog on how dealing with stress the best way possible is how to help your young adult learn too. She also has some fun winter resources to check out.

Ann on our Learning Disabilities’ blog has a long list of suggestions, complete with resources. I love resources, it helps me go off on tangents, read and procrastinate getting my blog posts done. But it also gives me ideas for articles to write, so it’s really not such a bad thing, right? It’s a good thing Ann’s resources are so useful.

Jennifer, on Parenting Tween’s blog asks if you’ve ever suffered from parental guilt. Hmmm… I know I have and if you’re like me, you’ll love the tips she gives to get rid of it.

Soni, on the Stay-at-Home Moms’ blog is excited about her resolution this year. She’s looking forward to that feeling of accomplishment you get when you make a resolution and stick to it. Hey, me too.

Dave has some noble thoughts in his resolutions over at the Stay-at-Home Dads’ blog. I have a favorite here too, ‘Involve the kids in my interests. Get lost in their interests.’ Be sure to tell him which one you like.

Elizabeth has given us 10 Ways to Help You Raise Kids Who Love Reading: Resolutions for Parents on Raising a Reader on her Children’s Books’ blog. My favorite tip for parents of teens is ‘Take your children to the library once a week.’

Terri wrote a humorous and not untruthful blog post over on the Special Children’s blog. She has a resolution request for almost everyone. So, if you’re stammering around wondering what you could be doing differently this year, she may have a suggestion for you.

Great list, huh? Happy New Year! Share your thoughts, opinions and advice for more carnivals in the comments area.

Hmm… get organized seems to be the theme. I guess it’s a good thing we spent New Year’s Day cleaning and organizing our house. After all the holiday fun, it was sorely needed.

Thanks for this great tour of the About.com parenting resources!

This has given me a lot of ideas for resolutions. Maybe too many. I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew. It’s hard to keep going with these resolutions all year, unless you make a true change in your routine.

Maybe you should re-post this on July 1st as a reminder for us to check in on our New Year’s resolutions.

These are all so great! Do you suppose that if I start them all, I’d end up keeping at least one?
