Head-Banging Music Causes Concussions?

Monday January 5, 2009
A new study out shows that the tempo of head-banging music along with the back and forth head movement that listeners make can cause concussions and mild brain injury. Eek! Fortunately for parents, the article says this type of temporary, mild brain injury was generally poorly understood, but was unlikely to lead to any more serious symptoms than headaches and dizziness.

It’s getting to be that parents have to watch out for everything these days. Not only do we have to worry that our kids are smoking pot at these concerts, but we also have to worry that they aren’t giving themselves shaken baby syndrome? Let me know what you think in the comments area.

I’m kind of laughing at this cause at age 42, I listened to head banging music and knew lots of head bangers. I don’t think anyone ever got a concussion from it? Lots of people with hearing issues, but not so many complaining of dizziness after a concert.

This is so interesting that there is actually some scientific eveidence to back up what people have said about listening to music that way. Of course, it probably won’t be enough to convince teens since they ignore overwhelming evidence about other health risks too.

Cant say i am surprised at that finding. If you can give yourself whiplash im pretty sure that you are not doing your brain any favors.

If you have done your job properly, you don’t have to worry about your teen smoking pot anywhere. Worrying about your kids headbanging is like worrying about them getting in a car and having an accident because they’re driving around with their friends. Only, that can, you know, kill them, and the odds of that happening are much higher. The point is, as a parent, you have to worry about everything, that’s your job. You can’t make it your kids’ problems by keeping them from doing the things they love. You just have to worry and hope you have them prepared for life. Think about all the things that can happen to your kids… A mild concussion while dancing a little too hard is nothing to worry about. Lighten up.
