Thrifty Thursday: Go Through the Grocery Flyer with Your Kids

Thursday May 28, 2009
Kids and teens like to look at sale items - even when they are in the grocery flyer. This is especially true if they get to pick out something to buy. A savvy parent will use this information to maximize their food bill savings by using the weekly store savings to purchase this week's meals. Using the flyer, have your kids and teens choose which breakfast cereal, after school snacks or dinner ideas they are interested in for the week. This weekly family habit will not only save you a few dollars but it's a nice break from making all of the food decisions.

(1) Susan Adcox says:

Store flyers are also a good way to teach other values besides what’s on sale, such as how to balance price, convenience and nutrition to make the best choices. Of course, the best way to teach these values is to actually take your teens to the store with you. Given the schedules of today’s teens, that is often impossible, but maybe with summer coming up, it will be more feasible.
