Teen Achievements: Johnny Strange Climbs All 7 Peaks

Thursday June 25, 2009
Did you hear about this teen? Really, you have to share this tonight with your teen. Johnny Strange has been climbing mountains with his dad since he was 12-years-old and just recently he has gotten to the top of Mount Everest. He now holds the record for being the youngest person to scale the tallest peaks on each of the world's seven continents. Just to clue in those like me who aren't mountain climbers, it seems climbing all of these seven peaks is a lifetime accomplishment. The seven that Johnny climbed are the original seven: Everest, Vinson Massif, Kosciuszko, McKinley, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro and Elbrus. Way to go!

According to this article, Strange sent an email to his family and friends after completing his climb, "Never let anyone stifle your dreams no matter the feat, for if you have the heart and the courage, impossible is nothing." Great insight, add that to your conversation with your teen too ;-)

Thanks for this!! Reminds me of a quote from from my Tips for Building Self Esteem booklet: “Teach your child to think so far out of the box that anything can happen. Teach them the wonder of magic and the magic of wonder.” I have more tips by following me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/helpforparents This is soooo inspiring!!
