How To Put Together a Care Package

By , About.com Guide

Care packages are fun to put together and even more fun to receive. Your college student will be thrilled to find something fun and personal from home in their mailbox. Here is how to show your college or boarding school student that you care by sending them a care package.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 30 minutes

Here's How:

  1. Send food - it's a must! Nonperishable food items such as breakfast bars, ramen noodles and coffee, tea or hot chocolate, are always welcomed.

  2. Recent pictures of the family or pets always bring a smile. Send a disposable camera and a self-addressed envelope along too. This way they can send some pictures back.

  3. Favorite soaps, shampoo and other toiletries come in handy and help with the budget.

  4. Check out what is near their college and add a gift certificate, like to a pizza joint or the closest grocery store.

  5. Practical items, like new undies and socks, will be appreciated and make a good joke for their roommates.

  6. Snacks, snacks and more snacks. Did I mention food is a good choice?

  7. New supplies for school will help their budget and cleaning supplies for their room are probably needed. Here a list of things a person in a dorm needs.

Tips:

  1. Pack it all in a storage container that they can reuse. Wrap the gifts up in a new towel, small bucket or other useable item. Get creative!

  2. Make sure you send a personal note or a card with the gift.

  3. Do you agree that using the real world is a great way to teach your teen?
