Nutrition Information

By Denise Witmer, About.com Guide

Our children grow at different rates, which is never more obvious as they pass through adolescents and become adults. Because of this, finding information on health & nutrition becomes more difficult as your child grows. It makes it hard for a parent of a teenager to answer questions like, 'Why hasn't my son ever gotten rid of his baby fat?' or " Is my daughter too skinny, should I be concerned?'

Another concern for parents of teens is in the not too distant future. Are our teens going to be able to continue eating healthy when they are out on their own? In other words, it is not only our responsibility to see that they eat well now, but we must also be responsible in teaching them to eat well independantly. Well this is no small task.

Here's a quote from our Nutrition Guide at About.com, Rick Hall, who has wonderful information on his site for the whole family.

"Nutrition is just as important for older children and teens as it is for young children. Beyond influencing cognitive function, good eating habits are developed during teenage years that will carry through adulthood. Also, with obesity rates growing worldwide at an epidemic rate, learning how to eat healthy has never been more important."
