by Hilary Abramson; Publisher: Random House ISBN: 0375754261
Hilary Abramson's comprehensive guide is for any high school athlete looking to attend college. Whether your teenager is a 'better than average athlete', a 'blue chip athlete', or just wants to play at the intercollegic level, this book will help them navigate the ins and outs of becoming an athlete at the college level. Abramson did well by separating the evaluation of the school with evaluating the athletic program, and placing the chapter on evaluating the school first. I felt the theme behind the scenes as I read was, 'Get into the best school for the best education you can, while playing the sport you love at your level of participation.' I was impressed with many of the sections, such as 'Top 10 Blunders That Could Cost You A Scholarship'. These were written in a no-nonsense manner and full of relevant information. The chapter 'Evaluating the Athletic Program' gives you the questions to ask the college's coaching staff, with the reasons why you should be asking. The resources at the end of the book include a Glossary of Terms and the NCAA Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete. If you're a parent of a high school athlete, even if they are only freshman, grab a copy of this book! It will answer any questions you have. |
