Ford Motor Company’s innovative MyKey technology is an excellent example of companies helping parents of teens keep their kids safe. Ford’s MyKey feature debuted as standard equipment on the 2010 Ford Focus and is now standard on nearly all Ford and Lincoln models and since this past year includes models selling in Europe. It allows owners to program a key that can limit the vehicle’s top speed and audio volume, will chime at programmed speeds to remind the teen driver to slow down and will not turn the car on if safety belts are not in place. MyKey also provides earlier low-fuel warnings. Currently, Ford is looking into ways to deter teens from using their cell phones while driving using the MyKey technology.
