Do boys have body image issues too?

By Denise Witmer, About.com

Question: Do boys have body image issues too?
Answer: The media and health agencies are reporting that body image issues have been becoming more and more of a problem for teen boys over the past decade. This is because boys are increasingly interested in their appearance including their hair, clothes and physique. According to a study done in Australia, it was estimated that about 45 per cent of Western men are unhappy with their bodies to some degree, compared with only 15 per cent some 25 years ago.

But, there is no need to wait for the facts and figures to come strolling in if your teenage son is having problems with his body image. Talk to him and seek help – especially if he is showing signs of destructive behaviors like eating disorders.
