Timeline for College
High School Schedule, Junior Year: September

By , About.com Guide

Jr Year Timeline Index | October

In September of their high school junior year your teen should:

  • Meet with his guidance counselor. He'll need to:
    • verify that his selected course is on target.
    • get mailers for college information.
    • check class rank.
  • Begin to look for community service hours. Schedule the time on his/her calendar - even if it's months away. Record any hours he/she completes in his/her academic and personal record.
  • Register for the fall PSAT.
  • Begin a goal sheet and action plan for his/her junior year grades. What grades does he/she want, how can he/she get them? Fill it out and read it often.
  • Use a daily planner to schedule study time. Make this a habit.
  • Become involved in or continue to be involved in organizations that he/she finds interesting and where he/she has the ability to shine. Leadership skills are important.
