Timeline for College
High School Schedule, Junior Year: May - Summer

By Denise Witmer, About.com

April | Jr Year Timeline Index

In May through summer of their high school junior year your teen should:

  • Develop a summer reading list.
  • Take his/her SAT I and/or SAT II.
  • Visit one or two colleges that are high on his/her list of choices.
  • After the college visits your teen can narrow down his/her college choices by looking at the atmosphere. Did the visits give your teen any idea if he/she preferred a small college over a big one? Does he/she prefer a liberal arts college?
  • Decide if he/she will retake the SAT I test in the fall. If so, continue to work on his/her testing skills by using practice SAT I tests and writing essays.
  • Continue to be on the lookout for other colleges that may have slipped under his/her radar. Just because the list has been narrowed down does not mean it cannot be added to.
