By , About.com Guide

Question: Where can a parent get help if their teen is using drugs?
Often parents will feel that their teenager - and their relationship with their teenager - is spinning out of control when they discover their teen is using drugs or alcohol. It is a big shock. It is difficult to know what to do next or where to turn for help. Here is a listing of places where you can take your next step in helping your teenager.
Answer: Substance Abuse Treatment Facility Locator
This searchable directory of drug and alcohol treatment programs shows the location of facilities around the country that treat alcoholism, alcohol abuse and drug abuse problems. This online service is provided by SAMHSA.

Covenant House
Another free hotline for parents and teenagers. The Covenant House also deals with run away situations and other crisis along with drug use.

If your teen is not in crisis - does not need intervention within the next 24 hours - you can make an appointment with his/her doctor and ask for more information on other local facilities.
