Should parents snoop on their teen?

By , About.com Guide

Question: Should parents snoop on their teen?
Answer: The term 'snooping' implies sneaking around looking at private things that are none of a parent's business for no reason what-so-ever but to satisfy our curiosity. Should we do this? No, of course not. This will break down trust in your relationship with your teen. It will deteriorate the family bonds you have worked hard to strengthen. Snooping is off-limits to parents.

Should parents check-up on their teen? Absolutely. Should parents go through their teen's things? If they have reason to believe their teen is up to something that is unsafe, yes. That isn't snooping by any stretch of the definition. Snooping because you are curious or angry with your teen is not recommended.
