We are going away and do not want to leave our teen home alone. What should we do?
Answer: If your teen is under the age of 18-years-old, you are responsible for their care while you are gone. You can ask a relative or trusted friend to watch your teen, either in their home or yours. Or you can hire a house sitter/teen sitter for the weekend. Often young couples will house sit for a little extra income. If you use any of these options, be sure to be very clear about your rules for your teen to the trusted adult.

If your teen is over the age of 18, you can simply ask them to make other plans for the time that you are going to be gone. You should make your expectations clear to your adult teen if you do not want anyone in the house while you are gone. You may want to let your local authorities know that no one will be at your home for the duration of your trip and also let a trusted neighbor know.
