When a teen doesn’t turn in their homework, they fall behind the entire class and miss an important piece of what the teacher is trying to teach. Generally, if it was assigned for homework the teacher felt it was important and the topic will be on a quiz or test. The teen who didn’t complete this assignment will not do well on that test and it just spirals down from there. Therefore, it is important for the parent of a teen who misses assignments to check in with their teen’s teachers and keep up-to-date with what is due and when it should be handed in.
When a teen doesn’t do their best on their homework they miss the satisfaction and confidence that working to the best of their ability can bring – not to mention learning what is being taught. It means lower grades and possibly lower self-esteem. Talk to your teen about their homework grades and work out a time in which you can check their assignments before they get handed in. You may find that your teen has been lackadaisical and the homework grades go up pretty much right away. Or you may find your teen needed some extra help, but they were afraid to ask. Either way, it is beneficial for a parent of a teen whose homework grades are not as high as they should be to check their teen’s homework before it is turned into the teacher.
