Taking your teen to the grocery store with you? Set your expectations and give your teen a limit on what you will spend on non-essential items. Before I walked into the grocery store with any child - teen or not - I make it very clear that I will only buy one item of their choosing and it that item has to have a purpose. Purposes include: After school snacks, breakfast cereals, weekend lunches, etc.
I do have to admit that I strive to find ways to get to the grocery store weekly without any children in tow, including my teens. But sometimes, it just isn't possible so I make their limits very clear.
