By , About.com Guide

While there is a certain time period during your teenager's senior year for him to apply for college scholarships, there is so much preparation work that can be started as soon as he enters high school. Here are the main things a high school freshman and sophomore can do to jump start their scholarship application process:

  • Start a personal and academic record, keeping all awards, grades, etc. in a file.
  • Start a list of scholarship opportunities by taking a look at what local clubs, companies, etc. give scholarship monies in your area and on the Internet.
  • Take a look at one or two scholarship applications and get an idea of what their looking for in a scholarship winner.
