Fun Family Activity for Families with Teens: Starting a Family Tree

By , About.com Guide

Get started with the software:
We’re going to start our fun family activities with a yearly family project. We’ll do small steps each week with the whole family doing its part. This year’s family project will entail building a family tree using the computer. The first job is to install the software. I’m using Legacy Family Tree, which has a free standard version. It’s easy and I recommend it for this start up project. They also have a deluxe version that your family can graduate to later. (other recommended software)
Let everyone enter themselves into the tree:
Once you have the software installed, have each family member add their own information, including name, birth date and place, and at least one digital picture – a baby picture and a current picture would be best. Enjoy digging out the photos and talk about the times they were taken. Now you've got your yearly family project started! Until next week’s task on our yearly family project, check out Introduction to Genealogy for fun tips.
