Each state in the United States has their own driving laws, including the laws about the minimum driving age your teen can apply to get a driver's license. Also, states regulate a time for a new driver to learn how to drive. During this time, the new driver is issued a Learner's permit. There is a minimum age to be able to seek a learner's permit as well.

Many states do not allow new drivers under a certain age to receive full driver's licenses. these drivers are issued a graduated driver's license and have more stipulations then a driver with a full license. For instance, the times in which they are allowed on the road may be restricted to before midnight and after 5 a.m. Below you will find a list of driving ages by state. When your teen reaches the age to get their permit, take them to the local police office to obtain a booklet for taking their state test.
