Five Tips for a Fun Family Summer Cruise

Family Cruise Vacations Grow in Popularity

From PRNewswire, for About.com

Travelers Advantage(R) has unveiled five tips for finding the perfect family cruise this summer. "Fun, value and safety are three of the top reasons your family should go on a cruise together this summer," said Julia Ryan, vice president of TravelersAdvantage.com.

"More and more families are sailing together, making this the fastest growing segment of the cruise industry," she continued. "More than a million children cruised in 2002, twice as many as 1998, according to Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Family cruising has become so popular that even luxury lines now offer programs for younger travelers, something unheard of a generation ago."

"Families looking for convenient, fun, stress-free and economical vacations are heading out to sea, and discovering more than a memorable cruise," she added. "Our family cruising tips will help you pick the right cruise for your family." Parents planning a 2004 vacation should consider these five tips for fun family cruising:

  • Value: Cruises are easy on the budget. One price covers meals, transportation, lodging, kids' programs, numerous shipboard activities, live entertainment and more. Look for a line that offers special "Kids Cruise Free" promotions or ones that give half off for the third and fourth person in a cabin if they are children.
  • Safety: Cruise ships provide a safe place for kids to relax while parents enjoy piece of mind. Seek a line that offers two-way walkie-talkies or beepers to your kids during the cruise.
  • Broad Appeal: With such a wide range of activities, restaurants and entertainment, there's something for children of all ages. Consider lines that offer shipboard and onshore activities matching the interests and ages of your family. Plan to enjoy a romantic dinner or evening out with your spouse while your children participate in special programs that can last until 10 p.m. or later on most lines.
  • Experienced Staff: Ships are setting sail with highly qualified youth counselors. Look for a line with experts in child development, education and recreation.
  • Schedule Flexibility: School breaks can vary from district to district and state to state. As school schedules can prompt high demand for family cruises, look early for a line that fits your children's school vacation schedule. No matter when your vacation time falls, the high seas are always open, and there's a cruise ship waiting to take the family on an amazing holiday adventure.
