Youth groups like to go to places they have never been. A youth group director or leader calls this an event. These events take careful planning. Part of that planning is being sure you will be able to get all of the youth to the event. You'll need to plan a car-pool. For help, just follow the steps below and you'll have an organized way to get your car-pool.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 2 hours
Here's How:
- Make a list of all of the youth, their parents names and phone number. Give yourself room to write notes after each name.
- On a separate piece of paper, write out what you are going to say - even if you know everyone personally. It will help you get through the list and stay on target. 'Hi, ______. This is ________ from the _______ youth organization. We have planned ____________ event and are currently in need of drivers to get us there. Is there any way that you or your spouse could help us out?'
- If you receive a negative answer, ask for something else you need. Just because they can't drive doesn't mean they can't send along a gallon of ice tea to the event. Everyone can contribute in some way just give them the opportunity.
- If you receive a positive answer, ask how many teens they can fit in their car. Write this on your list.
- Next ask who will be driving. You'll need to know because sometimes people will send an older sibling to drive. As the rules in most youth organization require drivers to be over the age of 21, this can be a problem. Be sure that it is an adult who is coming.
- The last step to these phone calls is gathering information. You'll need to ask several questions. Who owns the car? Whose name is the insurance in? Who is the insurance company? What is the policy number? You'll need this information in case of an accident and the youth in the car are hurt. Keep the information some place where you will be able to retrieve it.
- Before you leave for the event, have copies of the directions to the event place for each car. Hand them out and be sure that the drivers read through and understand them. Do this even if you are following each other.
Tips:
- If you have a heavy foot, leave it at home. When leading a car-pool, it is best to go even a little slower than the speed limit. Ask that the other drivers to do the same.
- At what age should teens be allowed to start dating?
