Teens Having a Tough Time Finding Summer Jobs, Tips for Parents
Thursday April 2, 2009
The downturn in the economy is affecting all of us, including our teens who normally work during the summer. Many employers are not hiring part-time seasonal employees like they have in previous summers and some places, like fun parks, won't have as many customers so they don't need as many working teens. What can your teen do this summer to earn some extra cash? Here are a couple of tips to offer your teen:
- Learn a needed skill. Lifeguards, for example, are still needed in many areas over the summer and it is a job normally filled by teens and young adults.
- Be innovative. Grab a lawnmower, make a flyer and start a summer business. Babysitting works too.
- Keep a positive attitude because attitude is everything when you have a lot of competition.
- Don't stop applying for jobs.

This is a great resource. I know that many teens get frustrated when looking for a summer job or afterschool employment and I found this to be very encouraging.
