Why Parents Love Harry Potter Books

See More About:
This phenomenal series is continuing to delight teens and parents alike. For those who haven't read the books, this may puzzle them. I know that is how I felt when a friend suggested I should read them myself. I was worried about how my then 9 year-old daughter would handle what I considered a controversial book.

So I picked up The Sorcerer's Stone and began reading. I couldn't put it down. It was almost as much fun as seeing my daughter not be able to put it down either! The rest of the series has followed this trend in our household. If you haven't yet been bitten by the Harry Potter bug, here are a few reasons parent's give for loving this series.

It's a great escape, with your teenager.
A good book will transport you away from today's stresses and bring you to another world. The Harry Potter Series not only does this for you, but for your teenager also. This will continue with conversations about the books. You can enjoy the mysteries of the book, like how Dudley got rid of that pig's tail, together.

Sneaks in some life lessons.
While there are no muggles, wizards or mud-bloods in our world, prejudice certainly is. The awkwardness of feeling that we are different is something we all have been through in our teen lifestage. Making mistakes doesn't always mean the end of the world. These and quite a few more underlying truths are weaved into the Harry Potter stories.

Teaches the love of reading.
This series is a great way to kick start a teenager who hasn't yet found the love of reading. I have seen this first hand. I have talked to many astonished parents whose teenager not only finished the first book, but are begging to buy all of the others.

A story you can enjoy over and over again.
Going on a long car trip? Need something to do with your teens? The Harry Potter craze not only refers to the books. There are cassettes that you can listen to while driving, games to play and the movies are slowly coming out. There is so much Harry Potter fun that the whole family can enjoy!
