Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book in the Harry Potter Series and a favorite for many of the books fans. It is endearing because it is the book where we met Dobby, the House Elf who tries to help Harry stay alive and safe so much he almost kills him. The second book follows Harry's second year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The book starts out with the Dursleys treating Harry as poorly as ever. they are having a client over for dinner and Harry is to stay in his room until the client is gone. At least they've moved Harry into a room, although he thinks it is because Dumbledore knew that he was in the cupboard under the stairs and that made Vernon Dursley nervous. Dobby show up and warns Harry, he can't go back to school. He seems Dobby feels this so strongly, he has been taking Harry's letters from his friends so that Harry won't want to go back. Dobby then proceeds the do magic in the house and dump pudding on the clients wife's head. This causes Uncle Vernon to seal Harry up in the room. But that's okay, because we get to see the full might of the Weasley boys as they get their Dad's flying car out of the garage and come get Harry. I love this section of the book as we can laugh right along with them, but you have to realize that the twins are pretty powerful wizards to be doing this.
Harry finishes his summer spending it in the Weasley's home and if we didn't know before, we certainly know now That Ginny has a crush on Harry.Harry is going back to school with his friends Hermione and Ron, plus Ginny is beginning school as well. Mr. Malfoy sticks Tom Riddle's diary into Ginny's knapsack and she reads it. It controls her and has her open the Chamber of Secrets releasing a monster that Slytherin placed in there. The monster is a Basilisk, which is a snake monster and explains why Harry keeps hearing voices saying things like 'Kill!'
Another special character introduced in the Chamber of Secrets is Professor Gilderoy Lockhart. A Character JK Rowling admitted she used someone she knew to create him – at least in part. Gilderoy learns of the Chamber and tries to take the credit for the find and erase Harry and Ron's memories, but the wand back fires and he himself is left with no memory of who he is and what he is doing.
At one point in the series Harry finds the diary and talks with Tom Riddle, not knowing he is speaking to Voldemort himself. Tom shows Harry a memory of Hagrid getting the blame for opening the chamber and letting lose his own monster, Aragog a giant spider. So, Harry and Ron go out into the woods and question the giant spider. They find out that Hagrid is not responsible for the opening of the Chamber.
Ginny is kidnapped and is being held in the Chamber of Secrets. Before I go any further, let's talk a little be about the Chamber of secrets. It is a chamber under the Hogwarts school created by Slytherin back in the day. He created it to hold his monster because he felt only pure bloods should be taught in the school and he want to get rid of the mudbloods- kids who didn't have two magical parents. The memory of Tom Riddle is getting stronger as he is stealing Ginny's life-force and she is dying. Tom shares with Harry that he is Lord Voldemort and he sends the basilisk after Harry to kill him. Harry fights the great snake and wins. Then he uses it's fangs to stab the diary which kills the memory of Tom Riddle. One more clue that I enjoyed finding out at the end of this book – it is riddled with clues to the end of the series – is Phoenix tears heal almost everything.
