Dumbledore and Fudge, the Minister of Magic get into a fight and the magical world is separated into 3 parts: 1 that follows Dumbledore, 1 that follows Fudge, and 1 that follows Voldemort.

Percy follows Fudge and uses his family to get more information about the goings on at Hogwarts. This information is then found out by Voldemort and used to hurt/kill Dumbledore.
