I think one of the most expensive regular purchases I have to make for my teenss is for shoes and sneakers. I have athletes and although that used to jack up prices, not so much today. All sneakers, even the bo-bos we used to get for a buck, cost much more these days. The problem that we have is finding shoes that will fit our teen when they need them for a lower on-sale price. Here are five tips that I use when faced with this dilemma:
- Put aside money in a shoe fund monthly, even if you will not be purchasing the shoes that month.
- Get the catalogs for your favorite shoe and sneaker stores. Make a list of all of the stores you use and watch for sales.
- Make a seasonal plan. You know that your teen will need new sneakers for basketball, so mark your calendar a month before to start looking for sales.
- If you find a buy one, get one sale, don't waste it on an impulse buy! Take advantage of it by looking at your seasonal plan and purchasing the next seasonal need.
- If your teen's feet have stopped growing, it is time to take advantage of seasonal clearance sales - not before. Don't waste your money on guessing sizes for next year's seasonal shoes.
