Hydropower is the power of water. When water moves, it has a lot of power. Think about it, during a flood, it is able to move whole houses. Scientists who work with energy, study how water can be used to make energy to run things. They use dams to run water through and produce electricity. Hydropower is responsible for 6% of total U.S. electricity generation, which is the largest energy source for the nation.

Project Ideas:

  1. Explain how hydropower is a renewable form of energy.
  2. What are the advantages and/or disadvantages of hydropower.
  3. Build a small grain mill or other object that uses water for energy and show how it works.
