Science Fair Project Ideas - Snow

Science Fair Projects for Middle and High School

By Denise Witmer, About.com

Snow is a frozen form of precipitation that falls as ice crystals form into flakes. You can make a snow gauge by taking an old clear plastic soda pop bottle and cut off the top half. Mark the outside in centimeters or inches with a permanent laundry marker and place it outside in a place where it can collect the falling snow.

Project Ideas:

  1. How do snow crystals form? What are the different types? Draw them.
  2. Make a snow gauge. Measure how much melted snow it takes to make one cup of water.
  3. Catch some snow flakes on black paper and then study the melted imprints.
  4. What melts more snow, water or salt water? Why?
